10/11/2006 A Great Week...

Hey everyone,

Where do I start? Let's start with Fletcher's trip home, we had a great day with him on Saturday. We all woke up early to get to The Center by 7:45! We were very excited to have a whole day at home with our sweet boy! Craig and Fletcher watched lots of football, Mimi came by to visit, twice! It was a nice, calm and uneventful day (just like we like 'em!)

Last Tuesday Fletcher had a dysphagiagram (a swallow study) this is basically an x-ray to see if he can swallow, a speech therapist fed him different consistencies of apple juice, apple sauce all with a little barium mixed in. YUM! Well, he was able to swallow what was given to him! Do you know what this means? It means they can start feeding him by mouth!!!! Fletcher hasn't had anything by mouth since June 2005. This has been so exciting for us as I'm sure you can imagine! The other great thing about the dysphagiagram is that it was at Baptist Hospital, And since Fletcher is able to go to appointments in his wheelchair we were able to head up to the 10th floor and see all his favorite nurses, respiratory therapist and doctors. It was so great to see them and then be able to turn around and leave!:)

Fletcher will FINALLY have surgery on his right eye on Wednesday, October 18th. It will be inpatient at Children's Hospital. Please pray for him and the doctors and nurses who will care for him.

Last Thursday we had our Patient Care Conference (PCC) at The Center. This is a meeting with the Center's pediatrician, the nurse practitioners and all of his therapist OT, PT, Education and Speech, basically anyone who works with Fletcher one on one. We had a great conference! We were so encouraged with the progress he is making! He GREW 1 inch this time! He's lost a little weight but they have adjusted his formula. He is doing so well. we are so proud of him! He has been out of the hospital for 6 months now! Way to go Fletcher!

RSV season is upon us, please pray that Fletcher stays healthy this winter. I'd love for him to make it through this season with NO trips to the hospital, of course! Sorry this update has taken so long, I wanted to send pictures of Fletcher eating, but I don't have a digital camera so I have to use up the roll of film in my camera before I can put them on the computer. So, I'll send pictures next time! Thanks for always praying! We love and appreciate you all!

Much love,
Craig & Denise
