Fletcher was born on December 30, 2004 at Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City. It was fairly obvious when he was born that he had a skin problem. Most of his face and head were covered in white patches and he was missing hair where these patches were. It is disheartening to hear the doctors and nurses in the delivery room say that they've never seen anything like this.
Fletcher also had some problems breathing when he was born and he had a plug in his throat. They were able to clear the plug but he had to stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) on oxygen because of this. While there, they didn't feed him for two days because his breathing was too rapid. When they started feeding him, he did not take his bottle well. The NICU doctors would not discharge him until he took 30 milliliters of food every three hours for 24 hours. He stayed in the NICU for 17 days after he was born and then he got to come home.
