Cover Notes
In a desolate Cornish landscape littered with relics of prehistoric man, the Doctor and Evelyn uncover a catalogue of mysteries.
What is the secret of the fogou? Can the moor be haunted by a demonic host of imps? And what is Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart doing in Pengriffen?
Teaming up with his old friend, the Doctor realises that an ancient conflict is nearing its conclusion - and Lanyon Moor is set to be the final battleground.
Pubication Notes
This story grew out of an energetic collision of ideas. Some of my time is spent in Cornwall where, away from the tourist ghettos, the landscape is rugged, beautiful, and steeped in its own folklore and history.
I was eager to place the Sixth Doctor in an environment he had no chance to visit on television: that rural English fantasia of inns, mansions and gothic mystery which has long been a
Doctor Who
staple. When I found myself charged with the daunting task of scripting his long-awaited meeting with the Brigadier, such a locale seemed doubly suitable.
The result is a new tale with an unshamedly traditional flavour. I like my
Doctor Who
served up with tea and crumpets, ideally on a chiily Saturday evening just as darkness falls. We join the TARDIS as she touches down on a windswept hillside…
