This is the first time Masque's gender is absolutely determined and she appears in the story as a beautiful blonde rather than the wrinkled hag of previous history (Masque's mutant power was always to mold the appearance of others but it did not work on her own hideous form).

Storm battles a mind controlled Callisto; Masque, the head of a rival Arena, is revealed as the mastermind behind the plot and subjugates Storm to her will; Storm is pitted in battle against Yukio but refuses to kill her; As punishment, Masque tries to break her spirit using her mutant allies.
