Aqualad

Story continued from MILLENNIUM #4 (January 1988); Story continues in MILLENNIUM #5 (February 1988)

Aqualad, still without his mental powers, struggles to escape from an octopus.  Aquaman arrives in time to free him, and they wonder what might have caused his loss of powers.  Suddenly, they are rocked by a shockwave and go to investigate.  They find jellyfish-like submarines controlled by Manhunters.  Aquaman tells Aqualad about the events in Millennium.  Suddenly tentacles from one sub brush Aquaman and Aqualad, stunning them.  At the Jellsubs' destination, the Manhunters speed up their operations which must be kept secret.  Aquaman and Aqualad recover and find the Manhunters, who are trying to free some sort of spaceship from an undersea mountain.  The Manhunters succeed in breaking it free, and Aquaman summons the creatures of the deep to fight the Manhunters.  Aquaman and Aqualad join the fray and have almost won when three Manhunters, specially adapted to the sea, arrive.  Aqualad is felled by one of them.  Aquaman grabs onto the back of the shark-like one and disables it.  Aqualad disables the crab-like one.  Aquaman is almost entangled in the tentacles of a jellysub, but Aqualad frees him.  Aquaman realizes that the jellysubs are alive, and he tries to control them.  Unfortunately, he's met with some sort of feedback that knocks him unconscious.  The Manhunters arrive, firing at Aqualad.  He decides to take a chance and let a jellysub shock him again, hoping to restore his powers.  It works, but the sea creatures barely respond.  Aqualad begs them to do it if only for Aquaman, and they do.  He then tries to cajole the jellysubs into turning against their masters, and he succeeds.  An octopus that he summoned arrives to take care of Aquaman.  Aqualad muses that his powers have changed; he can communicate with sea creatures but only on an equal level.  He asks the jellysubs to take the spaceship to the surface.  The jellysubs have cornered the Manhunters, but the Manhunters all self-destruct.  Aqualad and Aquaman plan to take the spaceship to the rest of the heroes fighting the Manhunters.
