Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure (デュアル!ぱられルンルン物語 Dual! Parare Lunlun Monogatari) is a 13 episode series created in 1999 by Masaki Kajishima and produced by AIC, who also known for the Tenchi Muyo! series. It is licensed in the US by Geneon. In addition to the 13 episodes, a special has also beed added to the end of the series.
DUAL! Parallel Trouble Adventure takes place in two different possible universes. In one world, a huge alien artifact is ignored and broken apart by a construction company, its main component tossed away by a worker named Yotsuga. In the other, Yotsuga keeps the artifact, leading to the discovery of extraterrestrial technology that completely changes the course of history.
Kazuki Yotsuga (probably the son of the Yotsuga in the opening scene) is the main character of the show. Kazuki is shunned by other students because of his web site, where he describes battles between giant robots that only he can see. He is surprised when Mitsuki Sanada, the most popular girl in school, approaches him one day to tell him that she shares his interest. This is only a ruse, however; her father wishes to study Kazuki for his research on parallel worlds.
After being thrown into the other possible world by Dr. Sanada's devices, Kazuki becomes a robot pilot for the other Ken Sanada, the leader of the Earth Defense Force. Kazuki manages to attract several very different women without even trying, and becomes a hero in countless battles.
Unfortunately, the travel between worlds is taking a toll. The barriers separating the two universes begin to break down, which will eventually lead to both worlds vanishing into nothingness. A decision must be made: since Kazuki and the alien technology are exclusive to each world, one must be eliminated to halt the destruction. Obviously, the robots have to go, and when the last one is destroyed, the worlds combine into one, an expression of Kazuki's wish for all his friends to stay together.
The show appears to be a strange crossing of Neon Genesis Evangelion and Tenchi Muyo! though in a lighter fashion. The creator of both DUAL! and Tenchi Muyo!, Masaki Kajishima, confirmed that DUAL! is in fact an alternate version of the Tenchi Muyo! universe.
