Tom Crane is a writer for a newspaper on psychic phenomena.  He goes to Edinburgh to get a story on a clairvoyant.  While there, he looks up Anne Reynolds.  Later, after meeting with Drexil and getting on his bad side, Tom and Anne use his repressed psychic abilities to find a missing woman, dead.  Tom's wife Julia arrives in Edinburgh for a visit and Tom meets her at the station.  While driving after dinner, Tom sees a woman on the road and crashes, killing his wife.  He decides that Drexil is the one who caused the crash.  Later at his home a man visits from Department 7 and offers him a job using his psychic abilities.  He agrees as long as it will help him to find Drexil.
