After discussing a peculiar pupil they both have in class (Susan), Ian and Barbara follow her home to a junk yard at 76 Totters Lane. Here they meet her grandfather (The Doctor) and manage to get inside the TARDIS. The Doctor will not let them go since to do so would jeopardize the time lines with their knowledge. He instead dematerializes the TARDIS which causes them to pass out.
