Realizing what Slay will do, Leo, Winia, Pacifica and Furet escape into hiding.  Later, Leo discovers that his horse has been confiscated and that the four of them have their likenesses posted as fugitives.  They group decide to do what is least expected and dress up in disguises in order to head to Grendel, the holy city.  Once outside the gates, Leo and Furet head back to steal some horses.  They are tracked, though, and in order to keep the soldiers from following them to the princess, Furet stays behind to fight them, giving up his life in the process.  Leo, making it back, tells them they need to get going but before they can go too far, the Obstinate Arrows show up.
