Captain Ravalo has been recruited by Jean and takes on his charge which he names Claes.  He discovers how things work when he gets disgusted with her shooting ability and tells her not to leave the firing range until she can shoot the targets consistantly.  After discovering that she's been out all night in the rain practising, he feels bad and starts a new method of training.  They begin to take fishing trips and on these trips he treats her more like a person, but never during training.  After a training session in the subway where Claes gets stabbed, Clases goes to the shooting range where Henrietta and Jose are also.  Ravalo sees Henrietta looking down the barrel of a jammed weapon and chastises her.  In his anger he lashes out at Jose also and Henrietta begin to attack him.  When Claes takes up for Ravalo by aiming at Henrietta, the two men call it off.  Ravalo later decides that he cannot take anymore of what they are doing to the girls and leaves the agency.  Before he goes, he gives Claes her old glasses and his office key so that she can have access to all of his books.  Later Ravalo calls a newspaper with a story but, before he can tell he dies in a car accident.  Claes breaks down upon hearing the news and goes for more conditioning.  Now that she has no handler, she stays on the grounds always and is used for testing purposes.
