The Medicine Which is Turned Off; RE-VIEW
11-Feb-2003
Season 1 Episode 20
Episode 20 of 26
Togusa has been thinking about the Laughing Man case and about his time at the institute where he met a strange kid.  He remembers the Salinger quote but also that the words "or should I?" where added.  He thinks that this may be the original Laughing Man and that the original incident may have been set up in order to get hard copies of data that could not be accessed electronically.  Motoko allows him to investigate further since she's convinced that he is not doing this out of a sense of revenge.  He finds that a listing of people that received treatment for cyber brain sclerosis is missing.  He tracks it down to the Sunflower Society and from it learns that someone on the medical review board is using the vaccine even though they refused to license it.  Assassins show up looking for the book and Togusa barely escapes.  He makes it into the streets with a gaping chest wound before passing out.
