Motoko is in for a new body after her run in with the armored suit.  Chief Aramaki learns that his brother who had been missing since the war may be alive and goes to investigate.  Motoko is sabotaged during the procedure but is helped by the Laughing Man who asks her to stand back and let him to what he has to.  She doesn't agree but hears him out anyway.  He sets her free from the Doctor's control so that she can escape.  Meanwhile, Aramaki has been duped and drugged and the cops are on their way.  Batou gets there first, however, and saves the chief from the men from the Narcotics Squad.  Togusa begins his recovery.
