Lister is recovering from space mumps when he finds out that the Red Dwarf has taken an escape pod on board.  Lister and the Cat started the thawing process when Rimmer informs them that it could be a dangerous androind instead of the woman that they think is in there.  They head to a penal colony just in case but Rimmer is sentenced with over a thousand counts of second degree murder.  Now its up to Kryten to prove to the justice computer that Rimmer's guilt is entirely in his mind since he's too incompetent to have killed all those people.
