Allen and company arrive in the capital city of Asturia and he rushes off to tell the king of the events that have transpired.  He discovers that Zaibach has its grip on Asturia tighter that he had thought.  The king orders the Escaflowne and Van to be turned over to Folken.  Meanwhile Van, Merle and Hitomi go to the market with the Princess Millerna.  Van sees his brother and follows.  While talking to him, the wounded and unbalanced Dilandau takes a shot at him from the fortress.  Once again Hitomi arrives just in the nick of time to warn Van of the attack but, this drives a wedge further between him and his brother.  Later, the King of Asturia wants to know if Van is "worthy" to be a friend of the court by pitting him and the Escaflowne against three other Guymelefs.
