The trio have come upon a checkpoint and Pacifica gets into her disguise.  With the unwitting hel pof Leo, the are let through.  They take up lodging and must start working to earn money.  Pacifica befriends the innkeeper's neice, Winia.  Winia lost her parents and has led a sad life since then but, Pacifica has brought her out again and she starts having fun.  The young girl from the lake appears to Shannon and names herself Afaa Zepheriss.  She warns him that there are forces moving against them.  As they prepare to leave, Pacifica and Winia are sad that they couldn't develop their friendship.  Chris shows up and, having determined that Pacifica has been staying at the inn, kidnaps Winia.  Shannon heads out to save her.
