The virus is uploaded and Motoko and company begin looking for the person that it has infected.  They make it in time to stop one of the security men from killing the Superintendent-General but when Motoko scans his brain she finds someone else doing the same thing.  Suddenly many people start going after the Superintendent-General also and it's all they can do to protect him.  They finally get him to safety and round up the suspects that tried to kill him.  When they scan their brains they find no external influence on them and yet they all claim to have had the idea to kill him at the same time with some even claiming to be the Laughing Man himself.  Chief Aramaki visits the now retiring Superintendent-General  in the hospital to inform him that Section 9 will begin an official investigation into the Laughing Man matter and that he should consider himself a person of interest for the time being.
