Synopsis* (may contain spoilers)
Remembrance of the Daleks by Ben Aaronovitch is a science-fiction novel that is set in the universe of Doctor Who, a popular British TV show. The book is based on the episode of the same name that was aired in 1988, and it tells a gripping story about the Doctor, his companion Ace, and their fight against the Daleks on the streets of London.

The story opens up with the seventh incarnation of the Doctor landing the TARDIS in London in the year 1963. The Doctor is on a mission to locate a powerful Time Lord artifact called the Hand of Omega, which has been hidden on Earth by his former mentor, Rassilon. The Hand of Omega is a device that can manipulate the power of stars, and the Doctor needs it to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands.

As the Doctor and Ace explore the streets of London, they discover that the city is in the midst of a bitter war between two factions of the Daleks. The Daleks are a race of alien cybernetic beings who seek to exterminate all other life forms in the universe. One faction of Daleks is loyal to the Emperor Dalek, who seeks to use the Hand of Omega to increase the power of the Dalek Empire. The other faction is led by an ambitious Dalek who seeks to overthrow the Emperor and seize control of the Hand of Omega for himself.

The Doctor soon realizes that he is the only one who can stop the Daleks from destroying the city and taking control of the Hand of Omega. With Ace by his side, the Doctor embarks on a dangerous and thrilling mission to outsmart the Daleks and prevent them from obtaining the Hand of Omega. Along the way, he forms alliances with various groups of humans who are also fighting against the Daleks, including a group of military soldiers, a group of crackpot conspiracy theorists, and even an old familiar face from his past.

The Doctor's journey takes him through the dark and dangerous streets of London, where he must fight off Dalek patrols and avoid detection by the various authorities. The Dalek factions are determined to eliminate the Doctor and Ace, seeing them as a threat to their plans. The Doctor also has to contend with his own inner demons and the guilt he feels about his past actions that have contributed to the rise of the Daleks.

In the climactic showdown, the two factions of the Daleks engage in a fierce battle for control of the Hand of Omega. The Doctor, with the help of his allies, uses his wits and ingenuity to outmaneuver the Daleks and turn the Hand of Omega against them. Ultimately, the Doctor and Ace emerge victorious, having saved London and prevented the Daleks from gaining control of the powerful Time Lord device.

Remembrance of the Daleks is a gripping and action-packed novel that will thrill fans of the Doctor Who series. It features well-developed characters and a complex and engaging storyline that will keep readers on the edge of their seats until the very end. Ben Aaronovitch has crafted an intricate and thrilling tale that explores themes of power, revenge, and redemption. With its vivid descriptions of 1960s London and its fast-paced action sequences, Remembrance of the Daleks is a must-read for any fan of sci-fi and action adventure.

Shoreditch, London, 1963. Two teachers follow an unnervingly knowledgeable schoolgirl to her home - a blue police telephone box in the middle of a scrapyard. The old man whom the girl calls 'grandfather' is annoyed at the intrusion: there is something he has to do, and he has a premonition that he will be delayed for some time... Six regenerations later the Doctor returns; and Ace, his travelling companion, sees London as it was before the Sixties started swinging - and long before she was born. But a Grey Dalek is lurking in Foreman's Yard; Imperial Daleks are appearing in the basement of Coal Hill School; and both factions want the Hand of Omega, the Remote Stellar Manipulator that the Doctor has left behind. Has the Doctor arrived in time to deprive the Daleks of the secret of time travel?

  • I try to maintain page numbers for audiobooks even though obviously there aren't any. I do this to keep track of pages read and I try to use the Kindle version page numbers for this.
  • Synopses marked with an asterisk (*) were generated by an AI. There aren't a lot since this is an iffy way to do it - AI seems to make stuff up.
  • When specific publication dates are unknown (ie prefixed with a "Cir"), I try to get the publication date that is closest to the specific printing that I can.
  • When listing chapters, I only list chapters relevant to the story. I will usually leave off Author Notes, Indices, Acknowledgements, etc unless they are relevant to the story or the book is non-fiction.
  • Page numbers on this site are for the end of the main story. I normally do not include appendices, extra material, and other miscellaneous stuff at the end of the book in the page count.
