Synopsis* (may contain spoilers)
The Also People is a Doctor Who spinoff novel by Ben Aaronovitch that was published in 1995. The novel features the Seventh Doctor and his companion, Bernice Summerfield, as they travel to a distant planet populated by a mysterious and powerful race known as the People.

The story begins with the Doctor and Bernice arriving on the planet of the People, which is known as the People's Republic of Haven. The Doctor has been to the planet before and wants to investigate some unusual readings he detected in the planet's atmosphere. However, they soon discover that the planet's inhabitants are not as welcoming as they had hoped.

The People are a highly advanced and telepathic race that keep their emotions tightly controlled. They are able to project their thoughts and feelings onto others and create illusions that can manipulate reality itself. The Doctor and Bernice quickly realize that they are in a very dangerous situation, as the People seem to have their own agenda and are not afraid to use their powers to control and manipulate others.

The Doctor soon meets up with his old friend, Chris Cwej, who is now working as a diplomat for the People. Chris warns the Doctor that the People are not what they seem, and that there is something sinister going on behind the scenes. He tells them that there is a powerful faction within the People known as the Faction Paradox, who have their own agenda and are not afraid to use any means necessary to achieve their goals.

As the Doctor and Bernice investigate further, they discover that the Faction Paradox are planning to use the People's powers to create a weapon of mass destruction that will be able to destroy entire planets. They realize that they must stop the Faction Paradox before it's too late, and they team up with Chris and a group of rebels who are fighting against the People's regime.

The Doctor and his allies face many challenges as they try to stop the Faction Paradox's plans. They are constantly being monitored and manipulated by the People, who seem to know their every move. They also encounter other powerful beings, such as the mysterious Time Lords, who have their own agenda and are not willing to get involved in the conflict on the planet.

In the end, the Doctor and his allies are successful in stopping the Faction Paradox, but not without paying a heavy price. The People are left in a state of chaos, as their tightly controlled society begins to break down. The Doctor and Bernice leave the planet, knowing that they have made a significant impact on the course of history for the People.

Overall, The Also People is a complex and intriguing novel that explores themes of power, control, and manipulation. It is a must-read for anyone who is a fan of Doctor Who or science fiction in general. Aaronovitch's writing is engaging and fast-paced, and he manages to capture the essence of the Doctor's character perfectly. The novel is a true masterpiece and a worthy addition to the Doctor Who universe.

'Just how technologically advanced are they?'
The Doctor frowned. 'Let me put it this way: they have a non-aggression pact with the Time Lords.'

The Doctor has taken his companions to paradise, or at least the clocest thing he can find. A sun enclosed by an artificial sphere where there is no want, poverty or violence.

While Chris learns to surf, meets a girl and falls in love with a biplane, Roz suspects an alien plot and Bernice considers that a Dyson Sphere needs an archaeologist like a fish needs a five-speed gear box.

Then the pease is shattered by murder. As the suspects proliferate, Bernice realises that even an artifical world has its buried secrets and Roz discovers what she's always suspected - that every paradise has its snake.

  • I try to maintain page numbers for audiobooks even though obviously there aren't any. I do this to keep track of pages read and I try to use the Kindle version page numbers for this.
  • Synopses marked with an asterisk (*) were generated by an AI. There aren't a lot since this is an iffy way to do it - AI seems to make stuff up.
  • When specific publication dates are unknown (ie prefixed with a "Cir"), I try to get the publication date that is closest to the specific printing that I can.
  • When listing chapters, I only list chapters relevant to the story. I will usually leave off Author Notes, Indices, Acknowledgements, etc unless they are relevant to the story or the book is non-fiction.
  • Page numbers on this site are for the end of the main story. I normally do not include appendices, extra material, and other miscellaneous stuff at the end of the book in the page count.
