Dear God,
Yes there is a Virginia who helped me create this planet and the marvels thereon.  And for whom I thank you.

Mother of us all, he was glad that now, of all times conceivable, he, F'lar, rider of bronze Mnementh, was a dragonman of Pern!
Comments may contain spoilers
I first read this book in 10th grade.  My grandmother bought this for me along with Lord Foul's Bane by Stephen R Donaldson in Ardmore, Oklahoma.  I had finished the Lord of the Rings for the second time and wanted to get a couple of new series going.  Both of these where book one of a trilogy (at the time at least).

LESSA'S
LAST CHANCE

After ten long Turns, Lessa was ready to come out of hiding, to reclaim her birthright... and to Impress the young dragon queen and become the Weyrwoman of Benden.

Suddenly the deadly silver Threads once again threatened all Pern with destruction.  But the mighty telepathic dragons that for centuries had defended Pern were now few in number, not nearly enought to protect the planet in its hour of greatest peril.  Then Lessa hatched a daring and dangerous scheme to rally support from people who had long ago ceased to exist!

From audible.com:

On the beautiful planet Pern, colonized for centuries, Land Holders and Craftsmen have traditionally tithed food and supplies to the dragonweyrs to which they are bound. In times past, the mighty telepathic dragons and their riders were the only protection from the dreaded, life-threatening Thread.

But it has been over 400 years since the last Threadfall, and some people have come to doubt that the menace will every strike again. But F'lar, rider of Pern's greatest bronze dragon, has no such illusions. The Red Star is near; Thread will fall soon.

Book another flight with the Dragonriders of Pern.

  • I try to maintain page numbers for audiobooks even though obviously there aren't any. I do this to keep track of pages read and I try to use the Kindle version page numbers for this.
  • Synopses marked with an asterisk (*) were generated by an AI. There aren't a lot since this is an iffy way to do it - AI seems to make stuff up.
  • When specific publication dates are unknown (ie prefixed with a "Cir"), I try to get the publication date that is closest to the specific printing that I can.
  • When listing chapters, I only list chapters relevant to the story. I will usually leave off Author Notes, Indices, Acknowledgements, etc unless they are relevant to the story or the book is non-fiction.
  • Page numbers on this site are for the end of the main story. I normally do not include appendices, extra material, and other miscellaneous stuff at the end of the book in the page count.

See my librarything icon librarything page. I use this site to catalogue books and it has more details on books than goodreads does.
