For my readers,
with my grateful thanks.
Eventually they put Reacher in a car and drove him to a motel a mile away, where the night clerk gave him a room, which had all the features Reacher expected, because he had seen such rooms a thousand times before.

He sat down, alone.

From audible.com:

Now a major motion picture.

Never go back - but Jack Reacher does, and the past finally catches up with him....
Never Go Back is number-one New York Times best-selling author Lee Child’s new novel of action-charged suspense starring "one of the best thriller characters at work today" (Newsweek).

Former military cop Jack Reacher makes it all the way from snowbound South Dakota to his destination in northeastern Virginia, near Washington, D.C.: the headquarters of his old unit, the 110th MP. The old stone building is the closest thing to a home he ever had.

Reacher is there to meet - in person - the new commanding officer, Major Susan Turner, so far just a warm, intriguing voice on the phone.

But it isn’t Turner behind the CO’s desk. And Reacher is hit with two pieces of shocking news, one with serious criminal consequences, and one too personal to even think about.

When threatened, you can run or fight.

Reacher fights, aiming to find Turner and clear his name, barely a step ahead of the army, and the FBI, and the D.C. Metro police, and four unidentified thugs.

Combining an intricate puzzle of a plot and an exciting chase for truth and justice, Lee Child puts Reacher through his paces - and makes him question who he is, what he’s done, and the very future of his untethered life on the open road.

"Tight and compelling...  Welcome to the relentless world of Jack Reacher and his impressive tendency to be in the wrong place at the right time....  [Lee] Child has created an iconic character that other thriller writers try to emulate but don't come close to matching."
- Associated Press

Former military cop Jack Reacher has arrived at the headquarters of the 110th MP, his old unit near Washington, D.C., the closest thing to a home he's ever had.  He's there to meet - in person - the new commanding officer, Major Susan Turner, so far just a warm, intriguing voice on the phone.  But Turner isn't there and Reacher is shocked to be charged with a crime with serious consequences.

When threatened, you can run or fight.

Reacher fights, aiming to find Turner and clear his name, barely a step ahead of the army, and the FBI, and the D.C. Metro police, and four unidentified thugs.  It is a race for the truth that will make Reacher question who he is, what he's done, and the very future of his untethered life on the open road.

"An adrenaline-charged, action-packed thriller... impossible to put down."
- Lansing State Journal

"The dialogue has never been sharper....  The pages turn themselves."
- San Antonio Express-News

Notes:
From www.jackreacher.com:

Lee Child was born October 29th, 1954 in Coventry, England, but spent his formative years in the nearby city of Birmingham. By coincidence he won a scholarship to the same high school that JRR Tolkien had attended. He went to law school in Sheffield, England, and after part-time work in the theater he joined Granada Television in Manchester for what turned out to be an eighteen-year career as a presentation director during British TV's "golden age." During his tenure his company made Brideshead Revisited, The Jewel in the Crown, Prime Suspect, and Cracker. But he was fired in 1995 at the age of 40 as a result of corporate restructuring. Always a voracious reader, he decided to see an opportunity where others might have seen a crisis and bought six dollars' worth of paper and pencils and sat down to write a book, Killing Floor, the first in the Jack Reacher series.

  • I try to maintain page numbers for audiobooks even though obviously there aren't any. I do this to keep track of pages read and I try to use the Kindle version page numbers for this.
  • Synopses marked with an asterisk (*) were generated by an AI. There aren't a lot since this is an iffy way to do it - AI seems to make stuff up.
  • When specific publication dates are unknown (ie prefixed with a "Cir"), I try to get the publication date that is closest to the specific printing that I can.
  • When listing chapters, I only list chapters relevant to the story. I will usually leave off Author Notes, Indices, Acknowledgements, etc unless they are relevant to the story or the book is non-fiction.
  • Page numbers on this site are for the end of the main story. I normally do not include appendices, extra material, and other miscellaneous stuff at the end of the book in the page count.
