KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Rhett Bomar 's fourth-quarter pass capped Oklahoma's only touchdown drive on a sloppy, mistake-filled night and the Sooners escaped with a 19-3 victory Saturday over a Kansas team that hasn't scored a touchdown since Oct. 1.
Bomar, the redshirt freshman who came in as the Big 12's 12th-ranked passer, connected with Malcom Kelly on a 25-yard TD pass with 10:17 left, putting the struggling Sooners (3-3, 2-12) on top 16-3.
His 40-yarder to Kelly ignited the 11-play, 92 yard march and finally brought life to an Oklahoma offense that had trouble all night moving against a powerful but frustrated Kansas defense.
Kansas (3-3, 0-3) managed only 11 yards of offense in the second half and 97 for the game.
Oklahoma's only other touchdown came against the inept offense of the Jayhawks. On the third play of the game, in Arrowhead Stadium before a disappointing crowd of 54,109, cornerback D.J. Wolfe intercepted Luke's pass and returned it 65 yards to the end zone.
Kansas, which lost 12-3 to Kansas State the week before, has not scored a touchdown in nine quarters, since the third period of a 30-17 loss to Texas Tech.
Much of the game, the 99th meeting of these two old rivals have played, was a festival of mistakes.
Kansas coach Mark Mangino, who promised to end his quarterback carousel by putting Brian Luke on the first team and leaving him there, had to watch the nervous senior throw two interceptions on his first three passes, leading directly to 10 Oklahoma points.
With Oklahoma's Calvin Thibodeaux grabbing him by the ankles, an off-balance Luke threw the ball straight into the arms of Wolfe, who picked up a couple of nice blocks during his TD return.
Mangino stuck to his word and did not make a quarterback switch, as he'd done nine times the two previous games, and Luke promptly threw an interception on his third pass. Clint Ingram made the pick and put the Sooners in business on the Kansas 38.
But the Kansas defense, which came in as No. 3 in the nation against the run, allowed Oklahoma only one first down before Garrett Hartley came in to kick a 40-yard field goal for a 10-0 lead.
Oklahoma, fresh off a 45-12 spanking by No. 2 Texas, had only 82 yards of total offense in the first half to 86 for Kansas. Luke was 11-for-30 for 86 yards, with three interceptions.
Each team botched two field goal attempts in the second quarter. Hartley was wide left from 48 and 37 yards.
Kansas' Scott Webb failed from the 41 - following Charles Gordon 's 31-yard punt return - and wasn't even able to get off a 32-yarder because of a bad snap.
In the scoreless third quarter, Gordon intercepted two of Bomar's passes - giving the Jayhawks possession on the Oklahoma 25 and the Kansas 28.
On the first play after the first interception, Luke's pass was intercepted at the goal line by Rufus Alexander .
After Gordon's second interception, the Jayhawks lost 2 yards on three plays and punted.
Webb had a 32-yard field goal late in the first quarter and Hartley booted a 40-yarder with 4:01 left in the game.
Oklahoma got 139 of its 306 total yards in the fourth quarter.
Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson , hobbled by an ankle injury, was virtually useless for the second week in a row, carrying five times for minus-4 yards.
