After Keitaro and Naru fail the Tokyo U entrance exam, they both take a vacation to Kyoto.  They go separately trying to get away from each other as much as everything else.  On the train ride they unknowningly sit next to each other but neither recognizes the the other since their glasses have both been broken.  They spend a day sightseeing and getting along well until that night when they have to share a hotel room and their repaired glasses come back.
