The Japan Liberation Front takes hostages which include some of Lelouch's classmates and Princess Euphemia.  Lelouch calls the remaining rebels that he's been working with to get them form the beginning of an army, one that he deems necessary after the problems he had at Saitama.  When he sees the hostage crisis on the news he uses his new recruits to show up outside the hotel where Princess Cornelia is.  He offers to rescue the hostages for her showing an uncanny knowledge of Euphemia's presence there.  The rescue does two things for Lelouch, he begins to build his army and be starts to get the Japanese people behind their movement.
