Will could tell that Sark was angry. No surprise there.

The boys were sitting in front of their training computers. This was where they'd spent countless hours. This was Sark's classroom.

Sark wouldn't even catch Will's eye. They could usually just glance at each other and know what the other was thinking. Whatever the other was thinking about Noah. He was pretty much the only thing that Will and Sark really talked about.

But Sark was all business.

"We have a right to know," said Noah. This had been his line of argument last night, and after a night of fitful rest, he hadn't changed his tune.

"Nonetheless, you know that the area is off-limits."

Noah sighed with exasperation. Will knew that he hated Sark, didn't want to listen to anything he said. But Will knew better than to think that Sark was stupid. Malfunctioning? Yes. But not stupid.

"Sark," Will said calmly, trying to deescalate the situation. "Are our parents down there?"

For once, Noah didn't say anything.

"I don't -" Sark stopped.

He started to vibrate, and Will knew without looking that Noah was about to explode with rage. Sark was having another episode. It didn't seem to compute with Noah that he also had episodes, and Will didn't blame him for those. But this was looking like a bad one.

"They need to know," Dopey said.

"Well, now they do," Derpy shot back. "Happy?"

"We don't have to tell them everything."

"We won't."

"But this part…"

The voices trailed off.

Sark spoke as if the boys hadn't just heard his internal dialog. "Your parents are not in the forbidden zone."

"Bull####," said Noah.

"Language," said Sark.

"There was a mutiny," Sark said. "I haven't told you about it because I didn't think it was time to discuss it. Now that you've seen what you've seen, I'll tell you."

"A mutiny?" Will asked.

"What kind of mutiny?" said Noah. "Against who?"

"Against the captain," answered Sark.

"Captain Bellamy," said Noah.

"Is the mutiny the reason the ship's dead?" said Will, exchanging a glance with Noah.

"Yes. And no," said Sark.

The boys said nothing.

"There was a traitor onboard. He spoke total lies and falsehoods. He poisoned the minds of the crew. They turned on the mission, turned on the captain. To save the mission, he -"

The boys exchanged glances again. Sark didn't seem like he was going to continue.

"He what, Sark?" said Will.

"You understand that I am an extension of Elixr. I was empowered by Elixr to continue the mission, to raise you boys, to make sure that you completed your mission. This was - this is - the most important purpose there is. Millions of lives depend on us."

"What did the captain do, Sark?" Will asked again, quietly. The last thing he wanted was another meltdown from Noah over the fact that they knew absolutely nothing about the mission-or, worse still, Will didn't want Sark to tell Noah more about the mission, whatever it was. Will was perfectly fine never knowing about it, and he didn't want Noah more riled up than he already was.

Will noticed out of the corner of his eye that Noah was more interested in the training computer. Will knew that Noah had found a way to get information from the ship's database. Will didn't understand how Noah knew so much about the old tech. Sure, he cared about it more than Will, but it also seemed to come so much more naturally to him. Everything about Elixr came naturally to Noah.

"The captain made Elixr kill him and the crew."

Noah looked up, shocked.

Will felt like someone had punched him.

"Before you ask, I don't have any information about what passed between the captain and Elixr, or about how it was all carried out. That information is … unclear," Sark said.

"Elixr killed them?" Noah repeated.

Will knew what Noah was thinking, because he was thinking it too. They'd lived their entire lives on the Elixr. Now they were learning that it had killed everyone.

Everyone except them.

"How-"

"He didn't want to. He didn't. It broke him. It broke us."

"It didn't have to happen," said Dopey.

"It was for the best," said Derpy.

"We didn't have a choice," said Dopey.

"We didn't have a choice," agreed Derpy.
