Recap

AP Recap

STILLWATER, Okla. –Drake Stoops registered season highs of 12 receptions for 134 yards and a touchdown and Gavin Sawchuk rushed 13 times for a career-high 111 yards and a score in No. 10 Oklahoma's 27-24 loss to Oklahoma State Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium.

Dillon Gabriel completed 26 of 37 passes for 344 yards and a touchdown with one interception. His touchdown pass went to Stoops on a 6-yard play in the second quarter that cut OU's deficit to 17-14.

The Sooners (7-2, 4-2 Big 12) took their only lead of the game at 21-17 on a 23-yard touchdown rush by Tawee Walker with 8:05 to play in the third quarter. Walker rushed for 59 yards on eight carries, all in the second half.

Each team scored a touchdown on its opening drive. Oklahoma State (7-2, 5-1 Big 12), which was No. 22 in the CFP rankings this week, took a 7-0 lead on a 20-yard rush by Ollie Gordon. That was the first offensive first-quarter touchdown Oklahoma has allowed in nine games this season. The Sooners countered with a three-play touchdown drive, scoring on a 64-yard run by Sawchuk. It was OU's longest rushing play of the season.

Following an Oklahoma fumble, the Cowboys went ahead 14-7 on a 13-yard rushing touchdown by quarterback Alan Bowman, then tacked on a 36-yard field goal by Alex Hale to make it 17-7.

On the ensuing possession, the Sooners covered 75 yards in nine plays and Gabriel connected with a wide-open Stoops in the end zone to make it 17-14 with 7:06 to play in the first half. That was the final score before halftime and OU trailed at the break for the first time this season.

Following the OSU second-quarter field goal, Oklahoma held Oklahoma State to two three-and-outs, three turnovers on downs and an interception. The Sooners, however, were only able to turn the defensive success into one score. The touchdown was Walker's rush that put OU in front 21-17.

Oklahoma State scored on their first two possessions of the fourth quarter to retake the lead. After a Gabriel pooch punt pinned OSU at the 3, the Cowboys covered 97 yards in just eight plays to move ahead 24-21. A field goal made it 27-21 with 6:59 to play. The Sooners cut it to 27-24 on a 36-yard field goal by Zach Schmit with 4:48 left in the game. OU got the ball back with 1:59 remaining and drove to midfield but came up short on fourth down to end the game.

Billy Bowman notched his team-leading fourth interception of the season. The Sooners tied their season high with three turnovers (also had three last week), throwing one interception and losing two fumbles.

Redshirt freshman linebacker Kip Lewis made his first career start in place of the injured Danny Stutsman and registered a career-high 15 tackles. Defensive backs Robert Spears-Jennings and Kendel Dolby and linebacker Kobie McKinzie also notched career highs in tackles (seven each).

Oklahoma plays host to West Virginia next Saturday at Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Kickoff time will be announced Saturday night or Sunday morning.
