Comments may contain spoilers
This is the first original Dalek story to be published since the television show stopped transmission.

I have never been a fan of the Daleks and I have always thought them overrated.  Once I watched Remembrance of the Daleks though with the Daleks "walking" upstairs, I can conceive of them as more of a threat.  This books was enjoyable, though the story petered out towards the end.
Synopsis (may contain spoilers)
This is the 5th novel published by the BBC to feature the 8th Doctor.  His companion is Samantha "Sam" Jones.  This also features the long time rivals of the Doctor, the Daleks.

Extract (may contain spoilers)
The Dalek Prime spoke again.  'Your statements are irrelevant.' he announced.  'You did not create the Daleks - our creation was a fortuitous consequence of the war.  We were destined to become the race we are today.  Instead of letting destiny to run its course, you interfered.  That was the first time that you attempted to usurp the power of the Daleks.  It was not the last.  These travel machines we use were created by the scientists of the Kaled race.  You took credit for their work to lend support to your claim of supremacy.
'The first Daleks understood your futile madness when they elected t destroy you.  I am the last survivor of those first Daleks, which is why I am the Dalek Prime.  This is why I speak for the Daleks, and hold authority.  I am the ancestor of the billions of Daleks alive today.  I have guided the race throughout our history, and brought us to the position of strength we hold today.  This entire galaxy is poised to collapse before us.  This is my achievement and my claim to rule.
'Your madness has brought us time and again to the brink of destruction.  Yet you still claim that we should still follow you.  Following you would lead to the destruction of the Dalek species.'
Davros moved slightly, and sighed.  'So, you claim to be the one to rule the Daleks solely because of your longevity?' he demanded.  'And that gives you supreme power?  A foolish notion indeed!'

The Doctor is repairing the TARDIS systems once again when it is swept up by a garbage ship roving through space, the Quetzel.

When another ship approaches and takes the Quetzel by force, the Doctor discovers that he and Sam are not the only unwitting travelers on board - there is a strangely familiar survival pod in the hold. Delani, the captain of the second ship, orders the pod to be opened. The Doctor is powerless to intervene as Davros is awakened once again.

Bit this is no out-and-out rescue of Davros. Delani and his crew are Thals, the sworn enemies of the Daleks. They intend to use Davros as a means to wipe out the Daleks, finally ridding the universe of the most aggressive, deadly race ever to exist. But the Doctor is still worried. For there is a signal beacon inside the pod, and even now a Dalek ship is closing in…

  • I try to maintain page numbers for audiobooks even though obviously there aren't any. I do this to keep track of pages read and I try to use the Kindle version page numbers for this.
  • Synopses marked with an asterisk (*) were generated by an AI. There aren't a lot since this is an iffy way to do it - AI seems to make stuff up.
  • When specific publication dates are unknown (ie prefixed with a "Cir"), I try to get the publication date that is closest to the specific printing that I can.
  • When listing chapters, I only list chapters relevant to the story. I will usually leave off Author Notes, Indices, Acknowledgements, etc unless they are relevant to the story or the book is non-fiction.
  • Page numbers on this site are for the end of the main story. I normally do not include appendices, extra material, and other miscellaneous stuff at the end of the book in the page count.
